RE: Recommended places to see from Tampa Bay to Knoxville

Not far from Sweetwater, TN in Athens you will find the Mayfield Dairy. They have tours (free) and afterwards they have an ice cream shop to purchase everyone a cone. This past summer my family and I really enjoyed this stop. Click tour
I think there is a KOA in Sweetwater.

RE: Adopting two tomorrow, you could too!

Uppercrust,
My 23yo daughter was adopted from S.Korea. She was born in Inchon City in 1985. The three younger ones were all adopted out of the foster system. When adopting children out of foster care, normally there should be no cost to the adopting family. The children also get medicaid until they turn 18 if needed, and their college tuition paid for.
Check out Heart Gallery
My wife and I have worked for several years with our local Heart Gallery. It works really well in finding families for children stuck in the system.
My best,
Zack

RE: Toyhauler parade!!!! I-395@ Hwy 58

I have noticed more RV's on the road here in S. Florida too. The turnpike south bound was bumper to bumper stop and go this evening. Guess we better enjoy while gas prices are back down. When things turn around and the economy starts rolling, demand will again increase along with the prices.
Another thing noticed is the increased number of the cruseamerica rental units. Seems I see several every day on the turnpike.
Happy Camping!

RE: Anyone towed a Town & Country mini van?

I have a Mirada F-53 chassis, 6.8L, V-10 Ford.
Will have to look into the rear wheel bearings maintenance to see if it is something that I could do or if I will need to take it to my trusty mechanic.

Anyone towed a Town & Country mini van?

Wondering if anyone has towed a Chrysler Town & Country front wheel drive mini van.
I had not thought about towing it until recently I saw one being towed by a class C. Sure could save many rental $'s if I just took my own.
My MH has a 5,000lb hitch, so my thinking is that I would need the tow dolly rated at 5,000 as my T&C weighs around 4,300lbs.
I am thinking about the Master Tow Dolly brand 80THD series. Master Tow site
Anyone with experience to share would be greatly appreciated.

RE: out of state purchase

I recently read on the forums where someone purchased out of state, then when they took their RV to the local dealer for warranty repair, that dealer refused to do it saying something about the tax not being paid. One hassle that you don't need.
Maybe someone will have more knowledge about this.

RV.net stickers ?

Anyone know where or how to get the RV.net stickers? I recently read a post where someone said they always walk the campground looking for them on other RV's.
What a neat way to meet others from the forum.
Thanks!

RE: Newbie In Waiting

I don't have a satellite dish on mine, don't watch enough TV to justify it to me. However there is already a metal plate and wiring with the opening up there, all sealed up, if I ever wish to add one. Your's may have that also.
Enjoy your new rig. Use it up and don't worry until something comes up. My Mother used to say, " It is better to wear it out than let it rust out." I have to agree.
Happy camping!

RE: Class A - Motorhome Resort in Sevierville, Tennessee

I have used my friends site , Outdoor Resorts, at times in Port St.Lucie, Fl.
Funny, when we first got our RV, we drove the van over to take the family for a look at OR/PSL. The saleslady was really snobby. First she asked me twice if I had a class A motor home. Like I must have made a mistake with the first "yes maam" answer.
She looked at my children (Korean, black, white) and said that they would not fit on the golf cart to ride around for a tour. When I asked if we could drive the van or walk, she acted like I insulted her. Needless to say, we did not see the OR/PSL.
At every campground we have stayed most everyone has been extremely nice. We do our best to teach our children to be the same way. I think if everyone would try to see what they have in common with others, instead of what is different, the world would be a much nicer place.
There are many nice places in Sevier County and the Smokies. Just pick another.

RE: Our little Cookie is throwing up

When our dogs are sick and throwing up, we feed cooked white rice instead of dog food. They eat early morning and then in the evening, missing at least one dog food meal. This normally helps.
Much like with a child, when our pets don't feel good we worry.
Good luck.

RE: Can "teething" cause diarrhea in pups??

Has always happened with all of our babies, so I would think for the most part it could happen with pups. Great thing the cooked rice, good thinking.
If it continues for 3-4 days I would make a visit with the vet just to make sure.
Happy Turkey!

Adopting two tomorrow, you could too!

Tomorrow we go to court to finalize the adoption of our two foster sons. Israel who will be 3 years old tomorrow, and Joel who is 21 months old. This will make five children for us, four adopted. We have fostered for about seven years here in Florida and these two little boys are our 38th and 39th foster children. Each has been a blessing.
We have loved all of the children whom we have fostered. Some were with us for much longer than others. Many were newborns that may have only been with us for months instead of years. Quite a few were drug babies with difficult withdrawal. Some had physical difficulties that we were able with surgery and therapy to help them overcome. Several were sickly and in the hospital for weeks on end. DH always stayed right there with them.
We have only been RV'ing for just over a year. It is such a joy to take the kids camping. All who have gone with us have enjoyed it so. One of our former foster sons, who got to go home to his family, got to come back for a visit and go with us for a long weekend and had the time of his life. Please understand, my kids may not always be the best behaved, but we are a work in process. Like all parents, we expect the best and are always using teaching moments.
Could I encourage you to consider fostering and/or adoption? Age should be no factor if you are in reasonably good health. Fostering has been both a joy and a heart breaker. The system is such a bureaucracy and very difficult to maneuver. It is much harder on the children. Camping has been a great therapy, if you can call it that, for the children.
Lastly, we look forward to the many blessings that these two little ones will bring. Every day we find ourselves looking at each other with a smile as a result of something that one of the kids did or said. God has truly blessed us with our children and also by introducing us to RV’ing.
Next I will need to change my signature.
Think about fostering and/or adopting.
My best,
Zack

RE: Family Camping and Where to go

Start a check off list of items to take/stock in the RV in your word processing program.
Next, a list of to do items when you are preparing to go camping, another for when you get to camp to set up, another when you are preparing to break camp to come home, then another for what to do once you are home. Each with a check off so you know that it has been done.
Kids are old enough to assign duties, let them be a part of the whole experience. Heck, my 3 year old loves to help me at the dump station.
Have fun!

RE: cold weather camping

I second the electric heater. We carry one of the ceramic type.
Also, if you have slides and can, leave them in.
This might be helpful
I am headed to Tennessee next month and the past few nights it has been around 17-19 up there. I hope it will warm up a bit. That is way to cold for this ol hillbilly. I always freeze, no matter what, when I go home in the winter time.

RE: Got my WDWorld R'vations again this year-NOT on-line tho

I find their on line reservation a bit more of a pain than all of the others.
We were there last month and there was a mix up with my name and my son's. Sr/Jr. He was not with us on that trip which apparently was a big problem. It took them 58 minutes to fix it and check us in. What a pain. I wish they had allowed us to go on into our site then straightened it all out.
We had a good time and I know that you will too!

RE: Wondering about next year

With fuel prices falling and Washington talking of sending us all more money. I don't understand why anyone would worry.
Just kidding.
I myself have been camping as normal, but when it comes to purchasing new items for the RV. I am mostly looking and not picking up. I guess we are all waiting on some type of direction. Maybe we are all looking to the wrong person/people?
